Introduction

The foundations now support programs with several cooperating parts. The remaining chapters address what happens when those programs must work with files, respond to failures, test their behaviour and communicate with other systems.

As programs grow, the challenges you face change. You begin working with larger datasets, interacting with files and external services, handling errors reliably, and writing code that must run efficiently or even in parallel. At this stage, Python offers a wide range of tools and abstractions that go beyond the basics.

This chapter introduces those advanced concepts. We start with specialized data structures that extend the built-in types and make tasks like counting, grouping, queuing, and modeling data far easier. Later sections cover file handling, error management, concurrency, and working with APIs—skills essential for building robust, real-world applications.

With these tools, your Python code becomes not only functional but scalable, expressive, and ready for practical use.
