Introduction to UML
On this page
ReferenceThe Unified Modeling Language (UML) describes a system’s structure and behavior through diagrams [1]. Use a diagram to answer a question before adding code—not to decorate the page.
In this chapter, model the data, design classes, inspect an object snapshot and implement that model. Application Design then shows user goals, workflows, messages and software components. Each view describes the same University Course System from a different angle.
The information model uses crow’s-foot ER notation; it is a data-modeling view, not a UML diagram type.
Start by identifying Student, Course and the Enrollment linking them.
